- This scene is a snapshot of Houston’s Third Ward. The urban environment features handwritten signs in the style of sign painter Walter Stanciell. Street vendors, pedestrians, and children playing imbue the scene with a sense of life. At the bottom left, a poster advertises an upcoming performance of Big Mama Thornton’s Harlem Stars at the City Auditorium. The artist also pays homage to his own family with a pool hall bearing his own surname.
