Hale Aspacio Woodruff was an artist and art educator known for his murals, paintings, and prints from Cairo, IL. Native Forms, the first panel in the Art of the Negro mural series, illustrates the range, diversity, and function of art in traditional African societies.

Native Forms (1) illustrates the range, diversity and function of art in traditional African societies. He depicts figures dancing and warriors in regalia, and sculptors and a cave painter creating their mediums. He highlights African spiritualism and religion by centering Shango, the Yoruba Orisha of iron and thunder.
